Raymond Kraut is a master luthier and fellow Roberto Venn graduate who went on to apprentice under the legendary Ervin Somogyi. Perhaps best known for his incredibly responsive acoustic guitars, Ray has also traveled the world sourcing some of the rarest and most sought-after tonewoods for guitar building. Ray and his wife Ashley started Derrio Wood Co. after discovering Desert Ironwood on their property at the base of the Tortolita mountain range in southern Arizona. Kind of ironic (tongue-in-cheek): after traveling all over the globe, a super-rare and amazing tonewood literally in his backyard. So, between all the custom spec options, premium electronics and hardware, and one of the best tonewood selections around, I feel like I’ve come up with a recipe for a truly unique, one-of-one, heirloom-quality instrument, paying homage to where it all began for the electric guitar.
