BASIC SETUP

Get your guitar playing its best with a proper setup. Get a detailed and thorough diagnostics on your guitar when it hits my bench. I dial in optimal neck relief and set nut and saddle heights for your desired string action, clean and condition the fretboard, set pickup height and intonation, and string up and stretch a fresh set of your favorite strings! At $75, you’ll be amazed at how much of a difference a proper setup can make to your playing experience. For an additional $25 I’ll address any fret sprout that may be affecting the feel of the neck.

PRO SETUP

This is the setup I would recommend if your guitar has never been professionally setup before. Here I’ll dive into a little fretwork for you, dialing in the fall away(the fret plane around the body joint towards the bridge), address any fret sprout all too common in our very dry southwest climate, and polish and buff out all frets, the nut, and any other components such as the saddles and string trees for smooth tuning stability and a buzz-free playing experience.

DEEZ NUTS AND SADDLES

As guitar builders, we live and die by the centerline. As repair people, I would say we live and die by the nut. This little component of the guitar sits right between the tuning machines and the fretboard and has a huge impact on the tone and overall playing experience of the instrument. The nut is responsible for your string spacing and action height as well as transferring the energy of all those beautiful notes into the resonance of the neck. There are many different materials such as bone, brass, antler, or horn, and even synthetic tusq that would be a considerable upgrade from a plastic nut or saddle. I can’t recommend this procedure enough if you want to maximize the tonal potential and feel of your instrument.

LCP! Level, crown, and polish! Proper fretwork is imperative for any instrument to play at its potential. Nothing is more frustrating than unwanted buzzing. Sometimes a good setup can take care of it, but sometimes a good fret level, crown, and polish are necessary to get your guitar playing its best.
